EXPERIENCE
The following experiences reflect my growth both as a student and as an individual, highlighting the skills and perspectives I have developed inside and outside of engineering. While some of my work has been directly related to Biosystems Engineering and sustainability, other roles have helped me build valuable transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability. Together, these experiences have shaped my work ethic and continue to influence my academic interests and future career goals.
WORK EXPERIENCE
​Aquaponics Research Assistant
September 2025 - present
Since September 2025, I have been working as an undergraduate research assistant in a biofuels laboratory at Auburn University. In this role, I have been involved in research focused on anaerobic digestion, algae-based treatments, and improving bioprocess efficiency. Being part of this work has allowed me to contribute to ongoing research that will be used in a peer-reviewed publication, which has been both exciting and motivating as I continue to grow in the field.

A large part of my experience has involved working directly with algae cultures and learning how to maintain them under controlled conditions. I regularly use laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, autoclaves, spectrophotometers, and biosafety cabinets, which have helped me become more confident in a lab setting while also reinforcing the importance of safety and sterile technique. Through this hands-on work, I have developed a much better understanding of how biological systems behave and how small changes in conditions can impact results.

In addition to the experimental side of the lab, I also assist with analyzing data and identifying trends using Excel. This has helped me connect the physical work I do in the lab to the larger goals of optimizing biofuel production and improving system performance. Overall, this experience has strengthened my interest in renewable energy and research, and it has given me valuable insight into how engineering and biology come together to address real-world sustainability challenges.
Olive Garden Hostess/To-Go Specialist
February 2024 - August 2025
During my time working at Olive Garden, I served as both a hostess and a to-go specialist, gaining experience in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Over the course of a year and a half, I developed strong communication and multitasking skills by managing guest flow, coordinating seating, and ensuring efficient handling of both dine-in and takeout orders. This role required me to stay organized under pressure while maintaining a positive and welcoming attitude for every guest.

As I became more comfortable in the role, I took on additional responsibilities and became someone my team and managers could rely on during busy shifts. Working as a to-go specialist, I was responsible for accurately preparing and organizing orders, which required attention to detail and the ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality. This experience strengthened my ability to problem-solve in real time, especially when handling high-order volumes or resolving customer concerns.

Throughout my time at Olive Garden, I was recognized by my managers as a strong and dependable employee, and I was being considered for a promotion prior to my departure. Although I ultimately left to focus on my academic goals, this experience played an important role in developing my work ethic, adaptability, and interpersonal skills. It also taught me the importance of teamwork and clear communication—skills that I continue to apply in both my academic work and engineering-related experiences.
INVOLVEMENT
American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)
August 2025 - present
Since joining the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) student chapter in the fall, I have become increasingly involved in both the organization and the broader Biosystems Engineering community. What started as an opportunity to explore my interests quickly developed into a deeper engagement as I attended meetings, connected with other students, and learned more about the field outside of the classroom.

One of the most impactful experiences so far has been attending the ASABE Southeastern Rally, where I was able to interact with students from other universities, participate in professional and technical events, and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available within Biosystems Engineering. This experience encouraged me to take a more active role in the organization, leading me to run for a leadership position. I was recently elected as Secretary, which reflects both my commitment to the organization and my desire to contribute more meaningfully to the chapter.

Looking ahead, I plan to attend the ASABE Annual International Meeting (AIM) to represent Auburn University and continue expanding my professional network. Through my involvement in ASABE, I have gained valuable insight into the field, developed stronger connections with peers, and taken steps toward becoming more engaged in the professional engineering community. This experience has reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in engineering and has helped me build confidence in both my leadership abilities and long-term goals.
